Lucknow: Senior Citizen Arrested for Running Illegal Arms Trade Under Honey Business Cover

Lucknow: In a major late-night crackdown, a joint police team from Malihabad and Rahimabad police stations under Lucknow Commissionerate arrested a 68-year-old man for operating an illegal arms manufacturing and smuggling racket under the guise of a honey-selling business. The accused, identified as Salauddin alias Lala, son of Shahabuddin, a resident near Picture Hall Tiraaha in Mirzaganj, Malihabad, was found in possession of illegal firearms, a large cache of live cartridges, weapon-making tools, and a banned deer skin under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Acting on a tip-off, police reached the location where the suspect was reportedly waiting for a buyer. Upon his arrest, eight live cartridges of .315 bore were recovered. During interrogation, the accused admitted to manufacturing illegal firearms at his residence, prompting the police to launch an extensive search operation at his home and adjoining areas. The search led to the recovery of a significant stockpile including three pistols (.32 bore), one desi katta (.315 bore), two desi kattas (.22 bore), one rifle (.22 bore), seven air guns, and a large assortment of live cartridges: 18 (.315 bore), 68 (.22 bore), 30 (12 bore), two (.32 bore), along with fired shells and weapon-making equipment such as six cleavers, two knives, one saw, and nine axes. Additionally, ₹2,000 in cash and a deer skin—prohibited under wildlife law—were also seized.

Based on the seizure, two FIRs have been registered against Salauddin: Case No. 142/2025 under Sections 3/4 and 5/25 of the Arms Act and Case No. 143/2025 under Sections 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. The arrest was made at around 1:30 AM, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The police team involved in the operation included personnel from both Malihabad and Rahimabad stations, with sub-inspectors, women officers, and constables working in coordination. Authorities have termed the action a strong message against the illegal arms trade and wildlife trafficking. Senior police officials affirmed that vigilance against such crimes will continue with full force.
